#AskStephanie: why do I have to be disciplined in my creative life?

Discipline is freedom.

I know that sounds crazy, but consider the relatively undisciplined life most writers live now: A life where we're slaves to our moods. When we're left to our own devices we ignore our dreams and goals and run straight to the easier stuff that provides escapism (but no substance). The things we always feel terrible about doing and that fill us with regret, because we know that the slightly harder things would have ultimately been more fulfilling in the long run.
